How is the course?:
The course was built in 1973. This facility has two eighteen hole regulation courses that make the drive to Half Moon Bay worthwhile. The original Links Course has been built on rolling terrain with large trees and brush lining the fairways on all the holes except for the two ocean holes, #17 and #18. The greens are medium-sized and slightly undulating. There are many very large and deep sand bunkers. Many of the tees and greens are elevated. The fairways are quite wide with several dogleg designs. The major difficulty in playing the course is the putting, and the wind, which blows most of the time, can require you to use more club than normal and to aim at sand bunkers allowing the wind to blow the ball back to the green. The signature hole is #18, a 428-yard, par 4, which parallels the ocean and is truly spectacular to view and, with the wind, interesting to play. The Ocean Course is a true links design, completely open, playing along the ocean. In accordance with the links design, the hazards are in the form of tall green on the side of the fairways and grass and sand bunkers. While the fairways are quite wide, many of them are sloped and rolling with mounds on the sides, requiring the placement of your shots in order to prevent your ball from rolling into the rough. There is a view of the ocean from most of the holes. Most of the greens and tees are elevated. The greens are medium in size and undulating, again resulting in the putting being a major obstacle to a good score. Also, the wind is more of a factor on this course than the Links Course for there are no trees to block it and several holes play directly into the wind. You will find the front nine easier than the back nine due to the hole designs and the wind. Groups of five are only allowed out after 3 PM. The clubhouse was renovated in 1997. There are no homes around the Ocean Course. You are not allowed to walk the Links Course. For additional information call the pro shop at (650) 726-4438 or visit the club online at www.halfmoonbaygolf.com. Arnold Palmer & Frank Duane designed the course. This course has 36 holes. How is the course?:
The course opened in 1998. This course features ocean views from fifteen holes and is considered one of the most beautiful courses in San Diego County. There is some water and an average amount of sand in the design. Natural features include red sandstone bluffs that accentuate the lay of the land, and the native vegetation that weaves in and around the course. Wind-rows of mature eucalyptus and Torrey Pine trees border some of the fairways, as do the flower fields that remain in production. The course is very playable, except when the wind blows or when playing from the back tees. The signature hole is #14, a 380-yard, par 4, which plays into a valley. The wind, which blows from left to right, is a factor on this hole and if your tee shot is hit too far right the second shot will come to rest on a severe uphill lie. The toughest hole is considered #9, a 495-yard, par 5, which plays straight uphill. A double-ended driving range and practice area has been developed to accommodate public practice as well as a golf teaching school. Cary Bickler designed the course. The course has 18 holes. The course includes waterhazards. And has 41-50 sandbunkers.

Course description:
The course opened in 1999. This visually stunning course is located at approximately 8,000 feet in the eastern Sierra Nevada Range. There are spectacular views of the mountains and the Mammoth Mountain ski area from many holes. The course has very narrow fairways that are lined by mature trees, so accuracy is a must. The areas under the trees are brush-free, though, so if golfers stray from the fairways they will still be able to find the ball. The undulating greens average 5,500 square feet. Some are multi-tiered. Many of the tees and greens are elevated. Streams cross some fairways, while a large lake also comes into play on the course. There are numerous sand bunkers, both on the fairways and around the greens, which often come into play. A course favorite is #10, a 555-yard, par 5, which has an exceptional view of the mountains. Golfers will find hole #17, which has a dogleg right fairway, one of the most difficult. Although this hole is only 365 yards, the landing area off the tee is very narrow and one will need at least a 190-yard drive in order to pass the trees and have an unobstructed shot to the green. Also, there is a stream that parallels the right side of the fairway. Cal Olson designed the course. Sierra Star Golf Club has 18 holes. The course includes waterhazards. And has 71-80 sandbunkers.
